Terrorists use fishing boats to avoid check points

Algerian security forces started investigating with about 50 fishermen owning small boats in eastern Algiers, Boumerdes (50 km east of Algiers) and Tizi Ouzou (100 km east of Algiers). Reports show that a group of fishermen transport terrorists using their boats to avoid security checkpoints, Echorouk has learnt.

  • About 10 fishermen were arrested in those areas and put in temporary prison pending for investigation. The rest of the suspects are under investigation. Security forces are keeping watch on suspicious fishing points and ports, said the same sources.
  •
  • These information were provided by a repentant terrorist who surrendered to security forces last week. He had been arrested in Tizi Ouzou.
  •
  • He told investigators terrorists use maritime roads to bring food from coasty areas nearby forests like Mizrana forest in Tizi Ouzou.
  •
  • Earlier, security forces had found a fishing boat in the forest of Mizrana along with cartridges and bullets.
  •
  • The choice of maritime roads comes as a solution of the inspection problem. Security forces do not inspect fishing boats. Because of that, they circulate freely in coasty areas.
  •
  • Coast guards are expected to extend their activity to areas where there is no coast check points.
  •
  • Security sources say a number of repentant terrorists had admitted that they were assigned to buy boats from some fishermen.
