In an unusual and baffling report, which goes against all international reports and even against UN reports through its UNODC Office (United Nations Office against Drugs and Crime), the European Agency “Frontex”, entrusted with monitoring the borders of EU countries, leveled extremely serious and unprecedented accusations at Algeria by branding it as one of the largest cannabis resin producing countries in the world together with Morocco.

Even though all reports issued so far, including the Wikileaks cables have not designated Algeria as a producer, but only as a transit country by force of its geographical position.

Nonetheless, according to the INCB (International Narcotics Control Board), Morocco has been clearly listed as the largest producer of cannabis resin of the African continent and one of the first in the world, if not the first.

In addition, the “Frontex” report contradicts itself, explaining that the cannabis resin smuggled into Western and Central Europe comes from the Kingdom of Morocco itself by bypassing Algeria.

As part of deterrent measures, Algeria has bolstered its border controls drastically with the Sahel countries or by sea, which implicitly entails that Algeria is only a transit country and not a toxins’ provider country.
