Tribute to late Dahmane El Harrachi in Paris

PARIS- A tribute will be paid on March 9 in Paris to Chaabi music singer late Dahmane El Harrachi, one of the best singer of “blues” of Casbah of Algiers, organizers said Monday.

The tribute will be paid by his son, Kamel, who will be accompanied during an “exceptional” concert at Theatre de la Ville de Paris, by a dozen musicians and singers.

For music critic specializing in world music Rabah Mezouane, the late singer “really marked an era by hits which became very famous and was one of the most emblematic figures of the exile’s song.”

“O thou the stranger, you are constantly running into the land of others,” Dahmane sang in “Ya Rayah” by Rachid Taha back then, and today by Kamel. To mark the 30th anniversary of the death of his father, Kamel paid tribute to those who “sang his art and left his footprint”, as he sang in “Ghana Fenou.”
