Tunisian deputy: we are proud of Algeria’s position

Tunisian deputy and member of the High Islamic Council Mohcine Tamimi hailed Algeria’s position towards events in his country. “We received Algerian President Bouteflika’s letter with satisfaction. He expressed Algeria’s support to Tunisia and congratulated the interim president,” he said.

• “The Algerian position reflects our reality of being brothers and neighbours. We are proud of this fraternal position,” he told Echorouk on the phone.

• He added that Algeria’s position was better than saying “you should do that or that. It seems that he meant Libyan leader Muammar Al Gaddafi who said he was sorry for toppling former president Zinelabidine Ben Ali.

• Tamimi said his country adopts civilised positions and respect others. “Others should respect us.”

• “What harms Tunisia is harmful to Algeria as well and vice-versa. We are neighbours. My country will continue cooperating with Algeria and it is going forward to build the Maghrebin unity.”
