Unemployed engineer sets himself on fire in front of Wali of Temouchent
Echorouk has learnt that a jobless engineer in the municipality of Ain Tolba in the wilaya or province of Temouchent in western Algeria soaked himself with petrol and set himself on fire on Thursday in front of the Wali or Governor of Ain Temouchent Mrs Yamina Nouara Zerhouni who was on an inspection visit to the local high school of Boukouche Akacha.
- The 26 year-old desperate engineer named Hounat Samir committed his horrifying act after being prevented by an element of the national gendarmerie from approaching and talking to the Wali or Governor of the province on a visit to the area.
- The hapless young man wanted to expound to the Governor his precarious social situation on account of the dire lack of job opportunities in the Temouchent region despite being a university graduate with a diploma of engineer in the field of architecture, well informed sources on the spot told Echorouk.
- Shortly after his unexpected act of self-immolation which flabbergasted everyone present on the spot, the young man was rushed by a civil protection squad to a nearby hospital with three degree burns all over his body.
- He is now in the intensive care unit of the hospital of Ain Temouchent and he is expected to be transferred shortly to Oran hospital on account of his critical health condition.
