A total of 44 percent only of candidates for the baccalaureate exams in Algeria will be successful due to repeated strikes, according to education independent unions and the Federation of Pupils’ Parents.

“In official exams, it is about two points: exam questions and scoring scale. If the questions are easy and the scoring scale is high in easy questions and low in the difficult ones, a large number of candidates will pass the baccalaureate exam. If the questions are average with a balanced scoring scale, success rate among candidates will express their real level,” said Kouider Yahioui, national secretary in charge of organization at Education Workers’ National Union.

He added that less than 50 percent of candidates will pass the exam due to repeated strikes.

“If more than 60 percent of candidates are successful, we can confirm that politics still controls the Baccalaureate exam,” he told Echorouk.

Messaoud Boudiba, press attaché at the National Independent Council of High School Teachers said there are no clear standards for success.

He believes that 44 percent only of candidates will pass the exam while politics has nothing to do with it as all the preparations for official exams were conducted by former minister Abdelatif Baba Ahmed.
