United Nations condemns Algeria for Anouar Malek’s torture case
The United Nations Committee Against Torture gave Algeria three months to reopen investigation about torture undergone by writer Anouar Malek who accused Abu Djerra Soltani, Malek told Echorouk.
“I was told Monday about the Committee’s decision as it decided in the lawsuit I had filed late in 2010 at Swiss justice,” Malek said.
He added that a committee in Switzerland will follow the case and will deal with Algerian justice to reactivate his trial procedures in a court in Algeria within three months.
He also said the UN Committee asked Algeria to compensate him for being physically tortured.
“As an Algerian citizen, I claimed for my right. I asked for a trial but my request was rejected. I will not give up my right until the Algerian justice opens the case once again.”
