US Company involved in tax evasion estimated at $ 3 million

The US well drilling company “NEPROSS” based in Hassi Messaoud (southern Algeria) is involved in a big financial scandal after refusing to pay the sum of $ 3.3 millions to the Algerian public treasury in the wake of the transfer of the oil rig 283 without a prior permit from the Algerian customs.

• The company which started its activities in Algerian in 2001 was drilling for the account of ANADARCO and OURHOUD and was working in close collaboration with the Algerian customs and tax departments.

• But in 2006, the company has infringed the Algerian legislation when they transferred the oil rig 283 to drill in the area known “ Guerd Lekh “Birkineé oil field ( 350 KM far from HAssi Messaoud) without receiving a prior permit from the Algerian customs after the end of the contract sealed with the Italian “AGIP”   to start another contract with the Spanish company “SIPSA”.

• The company avoided to proceed with the transfer its oil rig from the province of Adrar (southern Algeria) a completing drilling for the Spanish company “REPSOL” since August 2009 and the oil rig 284 based in the province of Al Bayadh after finishing work with the Norwegian company “STATOIL” since March 2009 for fear to infringe the law once again.

• The company’s CEO has paid a visit to Algeria in a move to get tax exoneration but to no avail because the Algerian customs stood firm on their position.

• It should be noted that NEPROSS owns 9 oil rigs and work with the Algerian hydrocarbons company, SONATRACH.
