Veteran activist Abdenour calls for installing an Army council for reforms
The National Coordination for Change and Democracy (CNDC) called, on Sunday, for a political transition in Algeria and for the drawing up of a governmental authority with extended prerogatives to lead the country towards a constitutional referendum.
- The opponent CNDC proposes to hold a national conference to nominate a national transitional council for democracy (CNTD) composed of personalities devoted for democratic change.
- Honorary-President of the National Human Rights League, founding-member of the CNDC, Ali Yahia Abdennour, told a press conference in Algiers that the CNTD will watch up the dissolving of all elected institutions, nominate a transitional government to deal with current issues and prepare the country to head towards a national restructuration through which a new constitution would be drawn up and proposed for popular referendum.”
- “The CNTD will be under the authority of the Army and security forces,” the activists specified.
- To recall, the CNDC have been holding marches each Saturday, since last 12 February, yet they were all foiled by police.
