Websites employ more than 27 thousand jobless in Algeria annually

The popularity of the three major virtual sites namely; Oued Kniss. Com, DirLaffaire. Com and Aarboun, specialized in e- shopping is growing day by day and the number of the surfers is hitting all records.

• The first virtual site, Oued Kniss.com , was created in 2006 by a group of friends for free and made at the disposal of the internet users to post their adverts. One of the founders has indicated that the name of the site , which echoes a famous market in a working-class neighbourhood here in Algiers, was done randomly.

• An accomplished journalist in a weekly online newspaper specialized in car industry has declared to Echourouk that most of the adverts posted on his site were inspired by Oued kniss.com.

• Now his site, which was once limited to car business, is dealing with other activities similarly to the traditional Oued- kniss market and is consulted by more than 25 thousand internet users daily.
• On a legal point of view, the Algerian authorities have endorsed a number of laws designed to protect moral and physical properties, but they are not put in force yet.

• The professor Mohammed Laaribi from the University of the Province of Boumerdes has indicated that e-business is protected by the major multinational companies following the example of Facebook and Twitter.

• “ The legal void over e- taxes and the absence of taxes over clients will engender tremendous financial problems like illegal money transfers as well as inflation” , he said.

• M Laaribi went on saying that these websites contribute to the promotion the multinational companies’ services inside the country without paying taxes in return.

• Apart from e-shopping activities, numerous websites have contributed to finding job opportunities thousands of jobless in Algeria. Figures revealed that more than 12 thousand jobs were provided to young unemployed thorough internet over the year 2009.

• Two major sites are consulted by 27 thousand people daily in Algeria looking for job opportunities in various fields of activities. Some 2500 companies are registered on those sites.
