Algeria was disqualified from entering into the second round following their defeat against the USA by a late Landon Donovan goal.

  • The USA also missed many chances. Clint Dempsey was about to change the score but Algeria’s goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi was brilliant in blocking the shot. Jozy Altidore missed another chance and US goal keeper Tim Howard managed to stop Matmour’s strike. Dempsey missed another chance before Mbolhi and the first half-time finished by a draw 0-0.
  •
  • Both teams missed a large number of chances in the second half-time as well. The first one was missed by Dempsey while Donovan missed another chance before brilliant Mbolhi. Algeria’s Ziani missed a good opportunity to score when he found himself face to face with the American goal keeper.
  • In the last minute, Kedir sent the ball over substitute Rafik Saifi’s head who could not score. Donovan scored the only goal in the match before the referee had announced the end of the game.
