Youcef Yousfi to tighten internal control within all structures of Sonatrach group

The Energy and Mines Minister, Youcef Yousfi, has decided a string of stringent measures aimed at further tightening internal control within the structures, all taken together, of the Sonatrach group.

•  The minister’s move concerns the central department of Sonatrach and all its subsidiaries here in Algeria and those established overseas.

• Such draconian monitoring decisions, aimed at warding off any new financial malpractice or wrongdoing by the personnel of the oil and gas company, should be applied thoroughly before next January 2011, according to authorized sources.

• Such a “cleansing operation” is obviously aimed at refurbishing the tarnished image of the Sonatrach group left behind by dismissed former energy and mines minister Chakib Khelil and his close associates.

• The latter, who were later brought to the dock, had opened the door to all sorts of blameworthy drifts which cost a staggering lot to the public treasury in terms of financial losses.
