73 million euros to repair Sonatrach’s headquarter
Vice-CEO of Algeria’s energy group Sonatrach prosecuted in the Sonatrach 01 case said 73 million euros were spent on the rehabilitation of the company’s headquarter in Algiers. This was done upon request from former energy minister Chakib Khelil. The deal was granted to a German company although t has weak technical capacities.
Reda Hameche put pressure to offer Sonatrach’s projects
Case-related documents show that prices were overstated by mutual agreements. This was in contradiction to the law on public deals.
Reda Hameche who was Khelil’s man No2 is involved in the issue but he is on the run. He held the position of Chef de Cabinet of Sonatrach’s CEO. According to investigations, he was involved in a large number of suspicious deals.
73 million euros to renew Sonatrach’s headquarter
The same suspect told investigators that the headquarter rehabilitation deal was concluded upon a request from Khelil. He ordered Sonatrach’s executives to use high quality materials. Although experts warned against the German company’s offer, the minister refused to abandon the project.
BRC controls most of the deals
The investigations show that the most important deals with Sonatrach were concluded in 2005-2009 with the US company BRC.
BRC withdrew from the Algerian market after a terrorist attack on its employees.
