Sarkozy’s UMP Party “cajoles” FLN
The newly-appointed secretary general of the FLN party, Amar Saadani, has received a phone-call from the current leader of the French UMP party, Jean-François Coppé, during which the latter congratuled Saadani for his election last month at the helm of the FLN party.
Analysts say that Mr Coppé ’s belated congratulations to Amar Saadani are not without innuendos or self-interest.
They also expressed amazement at Mr Coppé’s move owing to his staunch hostility to any Algerian or Muslim advancement in metropolitan France as evidenced by his repeated harsh statements to this effect.
According to Mr Amar Saadani’s office, Mr Jean François Coppé expressed during his phone-call to Mr Saadani, his party’s will to promote relations with the FLN party and extended by the same token his greetings to Abdellaziz Bouteflika in his capacity as honorary President of the FLN party.
Such a rapprochement was however firmly castigated by the leader of the “readjustment movement” born of a dissident FLN splinter group, Mr Abdelkrim Abada , who said that the current secretary general should not deviate from the long-standing policy line mapped out by his predecessors on the matter.
