Iraqi Authorities torture Algerian Prisoners due to their statements to media
A number of Algerian prisoners in Iraq told Echorouk, through phone calls, that Iraqi authorities in Baghdad sent an investigation committee to interrogate them in detentions.
The Algerian prisoners added that Iraqi authorities transferred a lot of them to Shiite prisons Southern Iraq, explaining that they have been interrogated following the publication of their statements in media, trying to show the reality of Iraqi detentions to the public opinion.
One of the Algerian prisoners in Iraq, who were able to make a phone call on Tuesday thanks to the Red Crescent, said that a number of Iraqi Officers revenge of Algerians who made media statements, and transferred them to solitary prisons and sectarian detentions southern Iraq, where ethnic eliminations are frequent between Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds, including an Algerian prisoner whose family previously uncovered his picture in Echorouk newspaper.
The spokesman added that another Algerian prisoner, 19, joined Iraqi detentions last weekend, on charges of terrorism.
Algerians detainees in Iraq called upon the authorities of their country to intervene in order to save the life of the young prisoner, who entered Iraq through the borders and was not a terrorist, and has no relationships with terrorist groups a, neither in terms of support nor in membership, asserting that the young boy was trialed and got 11 years in detention and his family in Algeria does know anything about this.
“Our previous statements for a number of Algerian media including Echorouk, was the real cause behind doubling physical and psychological torture on us, especially in the detention of “Suleimania” in Baghdad”, he added.
The prisoner sent a “rescue” message to the Algeria Ministry of Justice in order to intervene in their case, especially as a number of Algeria prisoners were arrested unfairly on charges of terrorism.
“On Sunday the first Algerian prisoner from Shlef (west of Algeria), was transferred to another detention southern Iraq following his media statements, where he was interrogated by the investigation committee before being placed in solitary confinement”, he asserted.
