Abdelghani Hamel: “AFRIPOL Will Be A Crucial Tool To Confront Crime”

Maj. Gen. Abdelghani Hamel, General Director of the National Security and Chairman of AFRIPOL, reiterated on Monday his commitment to emphasize the importance of AFRIPOL mechanism as a crucial tool in the field of international and regional cooperation to tackle crime in all its forms.

Moussa Mohamed Fiki,  Chairman of the African Union Commission, praised the efforts of AFRIPOL chairman in realizing the road map of this mechanism, particularly in its composition and capacity development, and to increase the capacity of African police officers.

Major General, Abdelghani Hamel, received on Monday the Chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Mohamed Fiki, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of AU’s Peace and Security Governor, Ismail Charki, at the AFRIPOL  building in Algiers Ben Aknoun.

During the meeting, the statement added, ways of enhancing cooperation between African law enforcement agencies were discussed to address the challenges and security threats that are identified by the African continent, including transnational organized crime, cyber crime, security for the citizens’ service and property protection.

During his visit, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, accompanied by the President of the African Union, visited the various offices and equipment of AFRIPOL headquarters, where he listened to detailed explanations. 

He also watched a detailed presentation on the AFSICOM communication system that is designed by the security experts, which is a training course for police officers, from March 11 to 15, 2018, with the aim of enriching knowledge and sharing experiences.

The President of AFRIPOL, the Director General of National Security, expressed his commitment to ensure, through international forums, the importance of the AFRIPOL Mechanism as a crucial instrument in the field of international and regional cooperation to address crime, continue to reflect the work plan of the African Police Organization Afripol and promote the exchange of experiences and use the modern technologies, similar to the innovative communication system that is designed by security experts.

For his part, Moussa Mohamed Fiki, Chairman of the African Union Commission, praised the efforts of the President of AFRIPOL, to reflect the road map of this mechanism, especially in terms of training and capacity development, and increase the capacity of African police personnel, to do its best in the field of security and the protection of property, asserting the importance of cooperation in view of the security challenges in the African continen.
