Abdelkrim Ben Yelles: “Charlatans terrorize Algerians with fairy predictions about earthquakes”

Head of the Research Center in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics “CRAAG”, Abdelkrim Ben Yelles, criticized, on Wednesday, at a press conference at the center’s headquarters, those he called the “charlatans”, who are terrorizing Algerians with their fairy predictions about earthquakes, without any scientific evidence and proof, and associated them with water leaks, and the activity of volcanoes, and limit them in specific periods of the year.
“Residents of the northern cities are exposed to the occurrence of earthquakes at any moment. Those who consider themselves experts and specialists in the analysis of earthquakes’ causes, should provide scientific evidence and research which prove what they call the explanations that are not based on scientific grounds. Some of them do not have any scientific articles in the field of earthquakes. I am surprised of some explanations about the existence of a relationship between the occurrence of earthquakes and water leaks. If the matter is based on these reasons, we can bring about earthquakes easily and provide their cause after that.”
“Seismic activity in the Algerian northern areas is confined to a specific time of the year. Northern cities population is exposed to the occurrence of earthquakes at any time of the year, and this is very normal, because it preceded the major earthquakes that are followed by aftershocks. Center offers analyzes and figures that are based on scientific research, not like sorcerers do.”
Reasons for seismic activity in the northern cities, is a result of the potential energy in the subconscious pressure on the earth’s crust, and the movement of floor plates of Africa, that are colliding with Europe. Those are key elements of the occurrence of earthquakes. There is no relationship of the other natural phenomena like eclipse, high and low temperatures of the seismic activity.
CRAAG report shows that the phenomenon of seismic activity is concentrated in two areas of the northern cities, namely Hammam Melouane in Blida and Merouana in Batna, and tremors rate of about 100 earthquakes in the month, at the time 70% of the world’s population is almost living in seismic tapes and there is no need to dramatize it in Algeria.”
“What is published by some of the media, which contribute to intimidating Algerians, especially when the earthquake is higher than 3.5 on the Richter Scale, as serious and urgent, when the quake exceeds Five degrees to be considered dangerous, and can cause material and human losses.”
