Algeria 3-South Africa 1: Desert Foxes beat Bafana Bafana
Algeria Monday inaugurated its first match in the African Cup of Nations by a victory over South Africa (3-1) in a difficult game where the Desert Foxes managed to turn things around.
As expected, the Algerian players suffered due to the opponent’s dynamic performance. Yet, their goal keeper Mboulhi was successful in dealing with the situation. The second half time was decisive as 4 new goals were scored. Of them, the first was kicked by South Africa’s Phala (53).
Algeria got their strength back as Hlatshwayo had headed into his own net from Yacine Brahimi’s cross. Ghoulam kicked the ball (72) and Slimani scored the goal.
The Desert Foxes have been capable of overcoming Bafana Bafana for the first time ever in the history of the African Cup of Nations.
Ahead of a match against Ghana due to be held on Friday, Algeria coach Christian Gourcuff should to address imperfections among his players including the defense axis.
