Algeria: 6,000 criminal offenses… 500 brawls weekly during Ramadhan!
During the first fortnight of the month of the holy month of fasting of Ramadhan, 891 persons were arrested in Algiers and brought before justice for their alleged involvement in 1,016 criminal offenses.
As part of their sustained activities of fighting urban crime, the security services of the province of Algiers have dealt during the first fortnight of the month of Ramadhan with 1,016 criminal offenses resulting in the arrest of 891 people, who have been brought before justice, security sources told “Echorouk”.
Thus, 465 people were arrested for possession and use of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances, 121 others for carryingprohibited firearms and 305 for various offence,said the same source.
With regard to the nature of the various criminal offenses dealt with by the relevant law-enforcement services, 282 concern acts of aggression against persons, 85 violations related to breaches of private property, 203 offences relating to disruption of public order, 25 offences of an economic and financial character and three cases related to offences against the family and morality, according to the same sources.
Concerning the carrying of prohibited weaponry, the same services handled during this period 121 such cases involving 121 people, who were presented before the courts, of which 63 were remanded in custody.
