Algeria: 8,000 criminal offenses registered since the start of Ramadhan
The National Polices Services and those of the National Gendarmerie have registered over 8,000 criminal offenses including 21 murders since the start of the holy month of fasting of Ramadhan in various parts of the national territory.
According to a security services’ tally, a total of 9,863 people involved in various criminal offenses including assault and battery, manslaughters, thefts, rapes and drugs’ peddling have been rounded up over the past three weeks.
The capital Algiers topped the list in the number of murders with 5 recorded in the suburban locality of Birtouta followed by 5 other crimes committed in the provinces of Oran, Bouira and Chlef.
Most of the victims were subjected to strangulation, hanging or were killed with the use of blades, knives or swords in the settling of scores, or acts of aggression perpetrated by evil-minded culprits.
Most of the 8,000 criminal offenders were arrested by security forces shortly after their horrendous misdeeds and are being held in custody in expectation of standing trial before justice.
As part of the struggle against illegal immigration meanwhile, the National Gendarmerie services of the province of Mostaganem in western Algeria, have dealt with 13 related affairs crowned with the arrest of 29 people of several nationalities including Africans who have been remanded in custody pending their forced repatriation to their respective countries.
