Algerian foreign minister Ramtane Lamamra and his French counterpart Laurent Fabius Tuesday called on Coordination of Azawad Movements to sign a peace and reconciliation accord in Bamako next Friday.

Lamamra and Fabius said the accord would be in favor for peace in Mali and the entire region.

“Peace process will be achieved,” the Algerian minister told a news conference in Algiers.

The two ministers believe that the peace document should be signed by the Malian government in Bamako and Azawad Movement in the north.

According to Lamamra, Algeria was in contact with the Malian government and Azawad to convince them to sign.

Algeria and France urged Azawad’s three movements which constitute the Coordination to satisfy the peace request and come to Bamako on Friday to sign the accord.

Fabius who is on a working visit to Algeria said the accord will be in favor of peace in Mali and the entire region.

Lamamra said he is confident that the peace process in Mali will be successful.

This comes as armed clashes took place in some towns in Northen Mali between the Malian army forces and the Coordination’s activists.

Asked about French President François Hollande’s expected visit to Algiers, Fabius said “Hollande misses Algeria and will visit it soon.”
