Algeria army is a security valve for Mali and Sahel countries, says Malian consul
Mali’s General Consul in Algeria Abderrahmane Kela described the Algerian army as a “security valve” for his country and the Sahel region. “Malian nationals pay the price of what is perpetrated by other Africans in Algeria and other countries,” he told Echorouk in an interview.
Is there any new information about the Ouargula fire?
There were Malian nationals among victims. They all left hospital expect one missing man which may have been killed in the fire. We could not identify him as his body was burnt.
We will keep touch with his family in Mali until security investigation results are revealed in Algeria. If his death is confirmed, we will ask authorities to burry him here because most of our nationals are Muslim.
Do you believe that borders between Algeria and Mali are safe?
Algeria played a big role in restoring security in Mali and on borders. The difference between it and other countries is that your country’s intention is good.
I hail the Algerian army’s role in ensuring the safety of borders. It is a security valve for us and the Sahel countries. Mali still lives in instability due to terror groups. Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and his diplomacy wisdom helped us to spread security in many areas. Yet, you know that the situation in Mali is not safe enough. Our nationals go to your country to seek tranquillity.
