Algeria army kills 102 terrorists in 6 months

The National Popular Army killed 102 terrorists in January-June and recovered large quantities of weapons including war arms and ammunition, the defence ministry said on Tuesday.

“The army’s units killed the possible largest number of terrorists. In January, 66 terrorists were killed, 17 in April and 14 in March and May,” said the ministry’s release.

“The terrorists were killed during military, ambuscades, chasing and military operations carried out by the army mostly in the north provinces (Tizi Ouzou, Boumerdes and Bouira). They are affiliated to the so-called Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb along with Jound El Khilafa in Algeria, the new organization dissident from Al-Qaeda,” it added.

It also said the army focused its operations on southern borders with Mali, Niger, Libya and Tunisia.

During those operations, the army seized large quantities of weapons and ammunition.

The army forces also seized 879,798,67 kg of drug. In February, about 44 tons of drug were seized on the Algerian western borders. A total of 760 persons were arrested.

A total of 1,568 people involved in different crimes were arrested and more than 1,596,148 liters of fuel were seized in 2015.
