Algeria asks France to apologize

Algeria Sunday summoned France’s ambassador Bernard Emie as Algerian communication minister Hamid Grine was offended at the Paris Airport, Echorouk has learnt.

The ambassador was informed of Algeria’s dissatisfaction as minister Grine was searched by the airport police.

According to the same sources, Algeria described that treatment as “offending and weird,” saying it took place in the VIP room.

“Algerian authorities do not accept any offending act. Two months ago, French authorities sent an official apology after a similar act against two Algerian ministers,” said a diplomatic source.

Earlier, Algerian industry and housing ministers Abdesselam Bouchouareb and Abdelmadjid Teboune respectively were searched at a French airport.

Amara Benyounes, Algeria’s former industry minister was humiliated on a visit to Paris.

Ministers hold diplomatic passports. They are not searched by borders police in crossing points (airports, ports) as they pass by VIP rooms.
