Algeria: Delivery of identity card and passport to be devolved upon Municipal departments instead of Administrative districts
“Echorouk” has learnt from reliable sources that the Ministry of the Interior and Local Assemblies is bracing in the next few days, to ensure the delivery of the national identity cards, the driver’s licenses and the passports for the benefit of citizens at the municipal departments of the capital instead of the various chief administrative districts as it was done previously.
This salutary move is mainly designed to ease the heavy burden weighing on the different administrative districts, locally known as “Dairas”, by allowing them to focus more seriously on the smooth implementation of much-awaited development and socio-economic projects at the local level.
The same sources told “Echorouk” that the new administrative procedures to be initiated shortly by the relevant ministry came in the context of upgrading the public service provisions and modernizing the local administrative apparatus, particularly with regard to the issuing of official documents and the removal of lingering red-tape hurdles so as to bring the Administration much closer to the citizens, notably to those living in the remote southern provinces of the country.
