Algeria: Employment Agencies “hired” 360,000 jobless people in 2014

The Director General of the National Agency for employment, Mohammed Tahar Chaâlal, affirmed that the rehabilitation of public service-linked employment agencies associated with the search for employment opportunities by job-seekers, represent a standing challenge that must met to clear the way for the opening and enhancement of an efficient national labour market.

Mr Chaâlal said during a meeting with media representatives in Annaba, eastern Algeria on Tuesday on the sidelines of a regional assessment seminar devoted to the evolution of employment agencies in the East of the country, that the proportion of direct employment by employment agencies, set at no more than 16 percent in 2010, has risen over the past year to 55 per cent of total employment figures across the nation.

He also highlighted the positive results registered in the rehabilitation process of the functions of the National Agency for employment and local subsidiaries over the past few years.

The 26 employment agencies based in eastern Annaba province have provided a total of 18.877 new job opportunities since the beginning of the year 2014.

70 per cent of these employment offers were made available in the sectors of services, construction, industry and food industry as emphasized by the lecturers who attended the Annaba seminar.
