Algeria Joins The Convention On Action Against Violence To Expose French Colonial Crimes

Chairman of the National Council for Human Rights, Fafa Ben Zerrougui Sidi Lakhdar, invited, during the opening of the training course on international mechanisms against torture and prevention from violence in Telemcen (western Algeria), on Sunday, the adoption of the draft proposal to join the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture in the United Nations, in order to enable the National Council For Human Rights to expose the crimes of torture against the Algerian people by the French colonialism.

“Algeria’s accession to the Convention Against Torture will enable Algerians who experienced the horrors of the brutal torture of French colonialism to benefit from the UN Voluntary Fund, on the one hand, and to present the image of Algeria to the international community, order to show the real suffering of Algerians from the colonial France’s crimes against humanity, before confirming to participants, including the Executive Director of the Geneva Institute for Human Rights, Abdelkader Nizar, that Algeria has nothing to hide.

President of the National Council for Human Rights, considered that Algeria’s accession to this Optional Protocol also comes as Algeria has the legal support to make it one of the leading countries in the fight against all forms of torture.

The spokeswoman returned to a carnival presentation, in which she revealed that Algeria’s defense of human rights was not accompanied by circumstantial developments, but rather from a time-bound period.
