Algeria Launches A Satellite To Solve Internet Problems

Algerian Space Agency will launch its first telecommunications satellite, AlcomSAT-1, by the end of the current year 2017, after the project has made progress in the completion process, leaving only entry into the ground phase and the launch.

This will enable Algeria to provide services in the field of communications, internet, television and radio broadcasting at high quality and at the lowest cost, as announced by the General Manager of the Agency, Mr. Ousadik Azzeddine, at a press conference, that was held on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the national workshop “Alsat-Users”, that is organized by the latter, for two consecutive days at the satellite development center in Oran (Western Algeria).

Organizer of the symposium said that the project’s deadline between the mid of 2017 to the end, pointing to that this moon is a weight of 5 tons, and requires that it will be launched from the distance of 36.000 kilometers, considering the delay is in itself in favor of deepening the techniques of completion of the ground section, as Algeria will finally be granted a system of assistance can be used in case of the interruption of Internet through the fiber optic system.

This is an important investment, which estimated at nearly $300 million, and this time its launch site was chosen from China, and the most important objectives also stop the monopoly of foreign satellites, which require a lot of money, despite the similarity with the product of the Algerian Space Agency, which was able to form 250 Algerian engineers in this field.

Ouseddik spoke about the stage that is reached by the Algerian Space Agency, after the launch of three satellites successfully in 2016, and the exploitation of these satellites to achieve their achievements in the service of sustainable development and the promotion of national sovereignty, by employing them as a means and not as an end.

“All the sectors record their presence the workshop, beginning with the sovereign sectors, such as the national defense and various security agencies, through employing them as a means and not an end, explaining that all sectors register their presence in the workshop, starting from the sovereign sectors, such as national defense and various security services and the economic sectors as well, where a commercial branch was established to market the agency’s products from the images that were taken from the ALSAT 2 group, which are harnessed for each sector, according to its specific needs.

It is not only based on the visual image, but is integrated with an information system that enables the user to make the right decision in the right time, which is the images that was exploited in the 2008 Ghardaia floods (southern Algeria).
