Algeria: people in 20 provinces stuck at home due to snowstorm
Heavy rains and snow blocked many roads and caused traffic dangerous accidents in northern Algeria. Pupils could not go to school as snow reached 50 centimeters in many provinces.
A total of 17 people were injured as a bus deviated in a road between the provinces of Bechar (south of Algeria) and Constantine (east of Algeria).
The province of Tiaret (west of Algeria) was covered with snow and many roads were blocked. Villages are isolated and pupils could not go to school.
In the province of Saida (west of Algeria), snow disturbed traffic isolating some villages.
Snow also blocked many national and provincial roads in the province of Tissemssilt (west of Algeria) isolating many villages in some municipalities.
In the east, a number of handicapped pupils’ parents Thursday held a sit-in next to the Oum Bouagui province main department to protest against the lack of heaters in their children’s school.
Pupils at the Hai Matar high school in Tebessa refused to enter classrooms because heaters were broken down.
Snow also blocked many roads and isolated municipalities in Setif. Residents had to use donkeys to bring food while others had to bring wood to set on fire.
