Algeria: Projected installation of network of surveillance cameras at 11 trading harbours for security purposes

The Transport Ministry plans to go ahead with the installation of a network of surveillance cameras at the level of the eleven national trading ports notably at six maritime terminals destined to passengers to monitor the flow of incoming passengers and their luggage in order to bridge the security gaps.

The move is designed to drastically improve the reception conditions for all passengers including the members of the Algerian community living abroad who regularly come for a stay in their motherland, in the wake of a blistering report submitted to the Government and which unveiled gross drawbacks and lapses and a certain “couldn’t care less” attitude attributed to the port operators in fulfilling their bounden duty.

The relevant fact-finding report was drafted by MP Noureddine Belmedah and conveyed to the Transport, Interior and Foreign affairs ministries in which the deputy shed light on all the blatant lapses and deficiencies registered in many ports and airports of the country and urged for early remedial solutions in order to refurbish the brand-image of Algeria at the domestic and international level.
