The Arabic Language Higher Council

The newly-appointed as the head of the Arabic Language Higher Council Salah Belaid Thursday said the language will be spread within 10 years along with Tamazight.

Belaid also said Arabic will be generalized through three phases. It will become a “functional” language and will be used in universities, technical fields and websites.

“An intensive program will be set to reform Arabic used in media and schools. The language will be also revised in school books. It will be used in technical researches and scientific fields,” he told Echorouk.

“If we have money and necessary software, this program will be achieved within 10 years. Arabic would be a functional and scientific language,” he added.

He believes that the Arabic language reality in Algeria has negative and positive points.

“Because of that, all the structures should be reactivated. Modern plans and programs should be set up to promote our language,” he said.

He assed that there is a need for creating functional dictionaries and a Tamazight encyclopaedia.
