Algeria To Export Cement In 2018
Algeria will start exporting cement from the first trimester of next year, through the LafargeHolcim Algiers company, to the West African countries.
Director of Public Relations of the Lafarge-Holcim complex, Serge Dubois, said, on Friday, that Algeria will register a surplus of about 10 million tons per year by the year 2020, considering the industrial capabilities that are currently set up, which necessitates preparing for the export of this surplus, as Lafarge intends in the first stage to export 500.000 tons per year from the first trimester of 2018 to countries in West Africa.
On the selection of this region, the same official told APS that the company has a specialized branch in international trade, “Lafarge-Holcim Trading”, which holds 50% of the cement exchanges in the Mediterranean and West Africa, which allows the creation of external outlets for the Algerian product.
For his part, the official of the partnership in the complex Hadi Rifai, said that the deficit that is known by the market in West Africa is a good opportunity to export Algerian cement, as the countries of this region import about 21 million tons annually, due to several factors, including the lack of raw material in the production of cement.
In order to prepare the upcoming export operations early next year, the complex contacted the Transport Ministry and the port institutions to prepare the berths and storage areas in order to allocate the floors for the export of cement.
