Algeria to hold international conference on Emir Abdelkader

Algerian war veterans’ minister Tayeb Zitouni Sunday said he agreed with Mascara’s provincial authorities (west of Algeria) to organize an international conference on Emir Abdelkader’s life soon.

Mascara’s prefect and a ministerial commission will be in charge of preparing the conference.

Another conference on torture centers and camps is expected to be held as well.

The minister stressed the necessity of writing history and recording testimonies. “France writes false information about the Algerian revolution. If no history is written in a transparent way, next generations will deal with false history with no facts,” he said.

He added that all pending dossiers elated to war veterans were settled.

This comes as Zitouni was on a visit to the province on Sunday. He expressed his satisfaction over structures and facilities. He held a meeting with civil society as well.
