Over 14 Algerian detainees who were arrested in the Maltese capital’s airport last Tuesday morning, decided to stop the hunger strike since Monday evening, expressing hopes to return to Algeria, and also because their hunger strike remained without any gesture from the Maltese authorities that did not give them any attention, and left them in the military barracks that is located not far from the capital of the Maltese airport.

The detainees said, in a telephone interview with Echorouk, on Tuesday evening, that the visit of the Algerian consul in Italy to the detention center, is perhaps the cause of these signs, and they confirmed that they will be transferred here on Wednesday evening, to La Faillite Airport, in order to bring them back to Algeria on Thursday morning, a decision that makes a difference among the detainees, as some of them wished to return back to their families, and to homeland, and others believe that what they spent from national and foreign currencies for tourism had been burned in detention and in the mental suffering, without any moral or material compensation, or at least apology, as they spent so far six full days with African illegal immigrants who are mostly from Chad and Libya.
