Algerian Symbol car still waiting for consumer credit
A number of executives led by Algeria’s industry minister Abdesselam Bouchouareb will visit a Renaut plant in Oued Tlilat on November 10th. It has manufactured 5,000 vehicles so far. They were sold to companies, national associations, public enterprises and few people. Algerians are still waiting for the release of consumer credit so that they can buy the locally made Symbol car.
Renault plant in Algeria continues to concretize the partnership accord with Algerian authorities signed in December 2012. A total of 25,000 vehicles are expected to be manufactured per year. The number will be gradually raised to 75,000.
The plant was inaugurated on November 10th in 2014. It is expected to manufacture 10,000 other vehicles by the end of the current year.
Figures show that Renault manufactured 5,000 vehicles in Algeria. It signed a number of conventions with public associations and national companies including Algeria’s energy group Sonatrach.
Demand for this car among Algerians is still low due to its price which is seen as high (128 million centimes). Many of them are waiting for the release of the consumer credit which raised a controversy as it did not come into force.
