Italian security services noticed last week the application of strict measures, which are described as violations against Algerians at Rome International Airport, to the extent of endangering the Algerians who stopped at this airport to continue their flights to other directions, and detaining them in offices and rooms that resemble the cells, until the approaching of their flights’ take-off.

Eyewitnesses, who stopped at this airport in order to complete their trip from Sofia to Algeria, told Echorouk that these actions touched particularly passengers who did not have a “Schengen” visa in their passports, and who are coming from the countries or on their way to other countries that do not require this type of visas.

“Italian security services stand with Algerians and some Africans in queues as soon as they stepped off the aircraft, then they are brought to booking spaces under heavy security escort, to allow them to go to an international transit area at the airport.

Despite the protest of some passengers who suffered from these procedures with representatives of Air Algerie, but the situation remained unchanged and they remained in detention, for over 03 hours in many cases, at a time when some of the Air Algerie staff tell them that the Italian security agents continued this procedures since the beginning of the week because of Algerians who exceeded 30 passengers and who came from Turkey on board of their airlines to stop in Rome, and continue their flights toward Houari Boumediene Airport aboard Air Algerie aircraft, but did they fled from the transit area and sneak out of the airport, which made the Italian security services tighten control over the Algerians who stopped at transit area.

Protests followed these procedures, especially those which were launched by some of the Algerian traders, who used to stop permanently at Rome airport, and change the line of movement to and from Istanbul, Turkey.
