Algeria's imports of Italian arms reached 290 million Euros in 2014

Algeria topped the list of the countries that imported weapons from Italy in 2014, as Algeria’s imports of weapons, military and defense systems reached 290 million Euros, along with the United Arab Emirates and Britain.

According to the leak from the Italian parliamentary report about controlling imports and exports of Italian arms in 2014, Algeria is the first importer of arms from Italy, as it nearly reached the total value of 300 million Euros, which represents 11.2 of the total Italian arms’ exports last year, which exceeded 2.3 billion Euros.

According to the report which will be submitted to the two chambers of the Italian parliament shortly, Algeria imported, from Italy 8 helicopters in 2014, from the company of military industry “Augusta Westland” model “AW 139”, and surface to air missiles, two naval guns, two GPS systems, West AGS Radars, and a minesweeper ship for the naval forces.

This financial value has increased compared to 2013 and which was published by the same parliamentary report, which was in the range of 234 million Euros, and came in the third row, which it had increased by about 56 million Euros, while the year 2011 was the year which noticed the largest imports’ rate from Italy, as it reached 477 million Euros, according to the same report.
