Algiers Security Services Arrest 18.000 Suspects In Criminal Cases

During the first six months of 2017, Algerian security services handled 16,101 cases that led to the arrest of 18,900 suspects, who were brought before the competent judicial authorities, including 6,655 people who are involved in cases that are related to the possession and consumption of drugs and hallucinogenics, 1,333 persons involved in carrying banned white arms and 10,812 persons involved in various cases.

Security services dealt with 1886 property-related cases, 3965 cases involving human rights, including two cases of intentional homicide.

In the case of felonies and crimes against the family and public morality, the security services of Algiers handled 189 cases, while 3602 cases are related to crimes and misdemeanors against the public, in addition to 671 cases that are related to economic and financial crimes.

In the cases of carrying illegal white arms, the capital’s security services dealt with 1,273 cases, in which 1333 suspects were arrested, of whom 132 were held in provisional detention.

In the context of the fight against drugs, 5965 cases involving 6828 persons were handled, and 98.23 kg of cannabis, 43168 hallucinogenic tablets, 388.39 grams of heroin and 160.44 grams of cocaine were seized as well.

Regarding the activities of the General Police and the Organization during the same period, the police forces carried out 2278 cases of surveillance of organized commercial activities, as 64 decision to close shops were applied by the competent authorities.

In the field of traffic prevention, the public security services recorded 23,260 traffic violations, where 19,010 driving licences were withdrawn, 444 traffic accidents were recorded with 491 injured and 19 perished. 

Most of these accidents are due to violating the traffic law. On the other hand, the Public Security Services of the State Security of Algiers carried out 7,946 maintenance operations. 

In terms of the protection of urbanization and the environment, the PSS carried out 148 demolitions on the orders of the administrative authorities.

Algiers security services registered during the same month, over 290,955 calls via the Green Lines 48-15 and the line of assistance 17, which remain at the disposal of citizens to report anything that would affect their security and safety.
