Forum of Heads of Institutions and the General Union of Algerian Workers condemn the recent statements by a number of EU officials, which included harsh criticism of Algeria regarding its measures to protect the economy after oil prices collapse.

In a statement, which copy is available to Echorouk, the FHI (FCE) expressed its discontent with the EU position, asserted that the precautionary measures that were taken did not cast doubt on Algeria’s desire to strengthen its economic cooperation with its strategic partners, including the European Union.

“The signatories to the National Economic and Social Contract express their concern about the statements which were made by senior officials of the EU institutions on the measures taken by Algeria to address the large balance of payments imbalances and budget deficits that threaten its financial and economic sovereignty”, the statement said.

“We hope the partners will support Algeria’s efforts to promote the economy and the implementation of reforms, and believe that the precautionary measures that were taken by many developed countries and industrialized countries did not generate reactions of this kind.

The signatories concluded the statement by confirming that Algeria is a strong and committed partner in its bilateral or multilateral economic relationships and will remain keen to implement the winner-winner principle.
