French Ambassador to Algiers Bernard Emié Thursday hailed higher authorities in Algeria for restoring a statute commemorating the First World War victims.

“A total of 175,000 soldiers of all religions went from Algeria to take part in the World War I. Of them, 26,000 were killed for France,” he said.

He talked about France’s cultural contribution in the Constantine, the Arab Culture Capital event, saying Paris was delighted for being an honor guest in the Algiers books fair.

“Constantine will be an honor guest in the Paris books fair as well,” he said.

Speaking about business, the Ambassador said French investments are long term projects and Renault plant in Oran is just the beginning.

He believes that having 5 French cultural centers in Algeria and the visit of French education minister to Algiers are a positive indicator. As a result, a total of 11 million Algerians speak French.
