Anger week for university teachers
The National Council of Higher Education Teachers announced Wednesday as an anger day through all the universities in protest against violence against teachers. Other teachers will protest next to the ministry Thursday.
“Wednesday, June 21st will be a sadness and anger day. The National Council of Higher Education Teachers calls on all the teachers to protest at universities starting from 11h,” said the union in a release.
“Algerian universities experience dangerous violence cases. Our colleague Karaoui Sarhan of Khmis Meliana University was killed,” it added.
The union condemned the crime and called on the ministry to bear its responsibility. It also asked the President’s Office to open an immediate investigation.
Teachers in Political Sciences Faculty at the University of Algiers 3 called for a protest next to the higher education ministry on Thursday.
“Violence is on the rise at Algerian universities. Several attacks against teachers were perpetrated. Teacher Sarhan was killed,” said their union in a release.
“Academics and intellectuals had sounded the alarm but what was the result? Carelessness and murders,” it added.
