The Minister of the Interior and Local Assemblies, Noureddine Bedoui, said that his services register over 500 daily attempts to infiltrate illegal foreign migrants into the country’s borders, stressing that the Algerian Government has taken all necessary measures to efficiently address the file of illegal immigration, saying: “The process of counting illegal immigrants is very intricate, it is subject to authorization by the parties concerned and all figures obtained to this effect are the outcome of in-depth investigations carried out by the relevant services.”
The Interior Minister said in response to a question raised on Thursday by a member of the National People’s Assembly regarding the measures taken to address diligently the burning file of illegal immigration that his services record an average of 500 attempts to enter the national territory illegally every day, while underlining that the Algerian Government is taking exceptional measures to cope with the nagging phenomenon of “illegal immigration” based on respect for international human rights’ treaties.
The Interior and Local Assemblies Minister also indicated that “public authorities in close coordination with the security services, headed by the National People’s Army are striving to address illegal immigration in Algeria as a precautionary measure, after investigations revealed the involvement of criminal networks bent on facilitating the entry of illegal immigrants into the national territory, stressing however that many of these nefarious networks had already been dismantled.”
Mr Bedoui further stated that the Algerian approach in the fight against illegal immigration is based on “strict respect for human rights in accordance with the international treaties ratified by Algeria as well as with the national legislation, with particular reference to the law on the conditions of entry, residence and transfer of foreigners to Algeria”.
