Car Dealerships Have 72 Hours Before Determining Import Quotas

There is a possibility of postponing the date of Algiers International Automobile Fair in its 20th edition, that is scheduled to be held in September, if there is the interruption of the delivery of car import quotas for the current year, and the delayed arrival of vehicles, due to the lack of orders for the new cars to be displayed in the fair, General Manager of Algiers International Automobile Fair “Safex”, Tayeb Zitouni, told Echorouk, on Tuesday, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the National Fair Measurement, Accreditation and Quality, in its 1st Edition, in Algiers Palace of Exhibitions, in the presence of the Industry and Mines Minister, Abdessalam Bouchouareb.

“We hope that the process will not be delayed until the end of the year, because of the intensive program at this time of year, as everything is currently linked to the quotas”.
“No official date has yet been set for the organization of the automobile Exhibition, which is characterized by a lot of ambiguity, because the accredited car dealers did not give, until now, their position to participate or not, and preferred to wait until the release of the car import quota in the current year”.
“Until now, nothing was decided, and we will meet with the dealerships to choose an appropriate date, and I think it will be after September, after the new vehicles’ entry to the market”.
“We would prefer not to organize the Automotive Exhibition in December 2017, because the exhibition hall’s agenda at this stage of the year, which foresees the exhibition, that is waited for by Algerians annually for two decades, to buy the new car, according to special offers and discounts”.
In April, the accredited dealerships began filing their import applications at the level of the Ministry of Commerce, which opened the registration process for obtaining the licenses, in accordance with the expiry date of April 15, IE within 72 hours, to discuss the size of the car shares that will be given to each dealership.
