Chakib Khalil and Sara Bassam to get 25 years prison in Egypt

Egyptian justice will issue an international arrest warrant against the former Energy Minister, Chakib Khelil, if there will be an evidence of his involvement with the actress Sara Bassam, which is investigated in money laundering case, to indicate that Egyptian justice is likely to accuse Chakib Khelil and ask for his trial, Captain of Egyptian lawyers, Sameh Achour, told Echorouk, on Friday.

“Ongoing investigations in the case of money laundering that has a relationship with corruption issues that are implicating Chakib Khelil, after he assumed the post of Energy and Mines Minister in Algeria, were launched in accordance with the judicial agreements between Egypt and Algeria, with regard to the fight against corruption and money laundering, i am not familiar with the files of the case specifically which details were revealed by the Egyptian newspaper al-Youm Assabie.”
In reading the judicial trial that was sent by the Egyptian public prosecutor to Algeria recently, to request special corruption files to the former Energy Minister, Chakib Khelil, for investigation in its relationship with the funds and accounts owned by Algerian actress Sarah Bassam who lives in Egypt, Sameh Achour said that considering that the crime occurred in Egypt and has a relationship with Algeria, the investigation will be launched in Egypt in cooperating with Algeria in accordance with the judicial and letters of request by special conventions in this regard.
“If judicial investigations in Egypt proved in the involvement of the artist with Chakib Khalil in money laundering, that are the result of bribes that may have been received by the minister, and has a relationship with the files of corruption, which were investigated by the Algerian justice, the Egyptian justice, in accordance with the laws can demand the trial of Chakib Khelil, and issue an international arrest warrant against him. Egyptian Court of Appeal ruled to freeze actress Sarah Bassam’s accounts, after discovering that her funds are illegal and the case is inevitably a money laundering.”
