Death chases 140,000 Algerians annually due to anemia

Over 140,000 people need blood annually, including 500 kids, while the daily number of people who need blood reaches 350, Director of the National Agency of Blood, Linda Ould Kablia said, on Monday during the opening of the conference under the title “National Agency of blood between reality and challenges”, which focused on evaluating and presenting the agency’s outcome during 2014.

There is a large decline in the number of blood donators recently.

A decline in the number of blood donators was recorded, as over 647,256 blood donators were recorded in 2014, which is a number that does not fulfill necessary need.

“This situation forced the Health Ministry through the National Agency of Blood to coordinate with the Religious Affairs Ministry, across the mosques, especially in Ramadan, Education Ministry and the various organizations of civil society, in order to collect and gain the largest quantity of blood, in addition to preparing a work strategy that is reflected in supporting operations that allow the increase of donators in a continuous and permanent way, in cooperation with other sectors like universities, schools, professional training centers and mosques, and activating all the communication means and technics to the necessary of blood donation.
