Defense Ministry sets terms for the acquisition of weapons and ammunition by civilians
National Defense Ministry set conditions, prohibitions, and ways through which civilian bodies will benefit from the decision to waiving weapons, ammunition, equipment of maintenance, spare parts and accessories by public companies with the commercial and industrial nature under the tutelage of the National Defense Ministry, for the benefit of civil bodies and structures.
National Defense Ministry’s decision, which was issued in the 54th edition of the Official Gazette, dated on July 14, 2015, and signed by the Defense Ministry, and Deputy of Defense Minister, Army Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Ahmad Guaid Saleh, includes ways of waiving in return for arms, ammunition, equipment of maintenance, spare parts and accessories by an industrial and commercial public company under the tutelage of the National Defense Ministry, for the benefit of the civilian bodies and structures.
Civil bodies and structures are, according to the contents of the order 97-06 of January,21, 1997, the war hardware, weapons and ammunition, as it was amended and supplemented then issued in the Official Gazette No. 6 on January,22n 1997, public administrations which conduct security missions, public administrations which agents are subject to the dangers of attacks during the exercise of their functions, security companies in charge of the transfer of money and sensitive materials, and public and private companies which task is to ensure the protection of properties and the security of its agents, in addition of sports’ shooting companies that are legally accredited, and natural people are authorize, either by force of the law because their social or professional situation or because of the particular circumstances of acquisition and possession of weapons and some ammunition.
Minors under 18 and people who were barred from acting, are excepted from the provisions of the preceding paragraph, and people who were treated in a mental hospital, in addition to persons who are deprived from one or more from the rights that are mentioned in Article 8 of the Penal Code, and persons who are sentenced with the felony or misdemeanor against the public thing, prejudice on public morality, trafficking or taking illegal drugs, smuggling, theft, written or oral threats, fraud, dishonesty, violence, rebellion against agents of the public authority or their representatives, as persons who are sentenced with the misdemeanor of forming illegal organizations and people who lost due to neglecting their arms which they obtained legally.
