Education: Teachers’ social services funds spark off renewed conflicts
The National Union of Education Workers confirmed that the sectoral workers were shocked by the conduct of social services in the previous mandate, stressing that they had been deceived for the second time in a row after the re-election of the former Commission led by two independent Unions only.
The National Union’s spokesperson, Kouider Yahyaoui, told “Echorouk” that that despite the cancellation of ministerial decree No. 94/158 which then entrusted the General Union of Algerian Workers with social services funds’ management more than three years ago after a difficult struggle waged by the independent trade unions, the teachers’ social services funds are set to be “looted” again with the controversial re-election of the same relevant commission which held sway during the first tenure, as he put it.
The spokesman further pinned the blame for these gross lapses on the Minister of National Education, Nouria Benghabrit, urging her to redress this bleak situation as early as possible notably by fostering a drastic change in the conduct of social services funds in the education sector through the enforcement of swift remedial decisions before things go further awry.
