Electricity and gas price raise will touch 24 Algerians

Finance and Budget Commission at the People’s National Assembly postponed establishing electricity and gas new prices until Wednesday. Some members suggested to have advice of an economy expert to decide in this sensitive topic.

According to sources at the Commission, a final decision has not been made yet about electricity and gas price raise in the Financial Act 2016.

The Finance Act is the most controversial law in Algeria as political parties opened fired on it.

The government is obliged to impose the new prices due to oil crisis and the necessity of looking for new funding sources for budget.

The same sources said the Commission is under social pressure as Algerians could not admit those raise which will hit their purchasing power.

The price raise will touch 24 million Algerians while 16 million will be exempted due to their low income.
