The 2015 “Azur” safety plan meant to secure holiday-makers during this summer season in Algeria will require the mobilization of 150,000 police elements in and around coastal and non-coastal towns and cities, said Sunday in Algiers the Director of public security at the General Directorate of national security (DGSN), Mr Aissa Naili.

“150,000 police officers of different grades will ensure the safety of the vacationers throughout the national territory”, said Mr. Naïli at a press conference.

He also announced that the members of the national community settled abroad can use their non-Algerian passport to enter the national territory without a visa, provided they have an official document proving their Algerian nationality and this until 15 September.

For his part, Mr Noureddine Berrached, the security Chief of the province of Algiers, said 50,000 police officers would be assigned to the protection of various sites and beaches of the entire province. He indicated that these security measures are being taken to ensure the tranquility of the citizens during the summer season and during the upcoming holy month of fasting of Ramadhan.

He pointed in this respect to the imperious need to continue the fight against antisocial behaviour on the roads, in public places and on the beaches.

This year, 77 beaches will be patrolled through 71 proximity police stations involving 1,200 officers only on 14 coastal provinces of the country. In 2014, the police services, entrusted with monitoring the country’s beaches, recorded 728 offences including 165 related to acts of aggression on people and 140 others concerning damage to property, leading to 405 arrests and 242 lawsuits.

According to Mr. Naïli, the police forces will also focus on the monitoring of markets and the fight against the pervasive informal trade while ensuring the implementation of the recent measures establishing the country’s beaches free of charge for all holiday-makers and casual visitors.

“Monitoring the tramway, the subway and bus stations as well as mosques is also one of the main objectives of the 2015 “Azur” summer plan”, he added.
