Faouzi Ghoulam Faces Racism In San Siro Stadium

Algerian international, Faouzi Ghoulam, faced on Sunday, racist cheers during a meeting between Napoli and Inter Milan in the 34th round of Serie A, at the San Siro stadium.

Algerian international was not the only player from Napoli, who was subject to these racist acts, but his Senegalese team mate, Kalidou Koulibaly was also a victim.

San Siro on Sunday noticed repeated scenes of racism that Italian clubs followed for the past few years, and this time was played by Algeria’s Faouzi Ghoulam, who was attacked by supporters of Inter Milan who chanted racist cheers after the victory of Gholam’s team mates.

According to the Italian press, racist statements that are related to Ghoulam’s origins occur while the announcer of the stadium of the team Inter Milan appealed to fans through the loudspeaker called on the fans to stop repeating these racist statements, and the referee will not have to stop the match, given that the Italian Football Federation’s law authorizes him to do so. The same request was made by the Senegalese Koulibaly to the referee after the cheers were directed to him.

It is expected that the Italian federation will impose severe penalties against Inter Milan after the acts of its fans in front of Napoli, especially as it does not tolerate such actions, which have greatly hurt the reputation of Italian football in the recent years.

On the other hand, Ghoulam is still attracting large European clubs, and he do not yet reach an agreement to renew his contract with Napoli club.

Ghoulams manager is in advanced negotiations with AC Milan which wants to buy him at any cost, but the entry of several European clubs on the line, such as the English clubs of Liverpool, Tottenham and the Spanish Atletico Madrid, will make the Algerian player wait before the next season, although Italian sources did not rule out his stay in Napoli for an additional season, given the attachment of the coach Sari with his services.
